Every dog has its day, and in our case that birthday is June 1: our Golden Retriever Ollie turned one year old. He is adorable and he totally knows it.

As it was our first foray into dog parties, we decided everything would be DIY. The cake, the cookies on the cake, the cake banner, the bandana, the Let’s Pawty Banner…everything but the balloon. I mean, it was worth it, but it was also a lot of work.
If you’re just starting out and don’t have endless free time to make big kitchen messes, we suggest picking one of the above to do yourself and go from there. Maybe you do it all, maybe not, the dog will love you just the same.
A dog’s birthday is about the whole family, right? Not just giving your dog a party to remember (as far as we know dogs in the wild don’t celebrate birthdays), but a way for you to connect, show them you love them, and focus on all the amazing love they bring to your life.
